The map shows where the future fossils will be 250 million years in the future.

The skulls were carefully built from a DNA blueprint, using the materials collagen and carbonate. The animals that they once helped animate died of natural causes. These skulls were sourced from the ground where the animal fell. For instance, the bison skull was found on the Great Plains of Wyoming.

By growing crystals on them the artist has entered these artifacts into geological time, or deep time, in contrast to the short life span of the animal. The skulls have thus been repositioned 250 million years into the future when all of the continents on earth will have dramatically shifted into one landmass. Each skull is tagged with their new geographical coordinate.
